Kastania takes NYC!

Oh hey there! It’s Kastania - one half of The Fog City Girls - and yes the rumors are true… ya girl moved to the BIG APPLE, New York City, concrete jungle where dreams are made of! Now you may be asking yourself, WTF? WHY TF?! HOW TF?! WHEN TF?! and WHAT DOES TF MEAN?! Haha, I hope I can help answer some of these questions for ya!

I have traveled to NYC for the first time last February and I had this weird overwhelming feeling that I was meant to be here. It sounds so cliche and ridiculous but it’s the complete truth. I really felt like this was meant to be my home. Now this doesn’t mean that San Francisco felt less like home; I just felt that it became harder to make a life for myself in the Bay at this very moment in time. The rent was dramatically increasing, my job(s) felt like I was on a hamster wheel going nowhere, and dating in SF for me was a comedy show. My family and close friends were all in The Bay but it felt like I was missing something big in my life. Maybe this resonates for someone reading this and maybe I sound crazy, but it’s the chapter in MY story. I love the hustle of New York and the way that this city really never sleeps! I also wanted to take the next step in my music career and I really feel like this was the right decision for me to make in my early twenties. I never went far away for college and had never really lived outside of the Bay Area for a long time.

So here’s the real deal - I bought a one-way ticket this past March for a flight at the end of June and I gave myself 2 1/2 months to save enough money to live in NYC, find an apartment, and figure out a job. If I didn’t have the flight, I probably wouldn’t have gotten off my ass to get my life together and get to the east coast. If I say I’m going to do something, I will have tunnel vision to get to the goal. It's both a curse and a blessing LOL.

I was able to find a place to live before I moved out to NY, next was a job. I knew I needed to just get out here and then if it was meant to be, the rest would fall into place. I have been here for a total of 1 month as of this week and I can now tell you that I’ve accepted a position at ALT 92.3 radio station, a bartending gig at a cool rooftop spot, and a part-time job working at the box office of a music venue in Manhattan. I absolutely LOVE working in the music industry, and I want to continue grinding in this insane career and what better way than doing this in New York FREAKING City!

I’m going to get VVVVVVV real with you guys in the next paragraph!

I’ve learned more about myself in the last 3 weeks than I have in the last 27 years! I get reaaaaaalllllllllyyyy anxious when I don’t have a plan or when I get lost. Like so anxious that I can’t eat, sleep or leave my apartment. I always thought I was so extroverted and social, but I had no one to rely on but myself and I was terrified of getting lost. I know that’s the fun part of being in a new city but my first week here felt a bit paralyzing. I tried my hardest to make it a point to accomplish at least one BIG thing each day, whether that’s going on a run, grabbing groceries, or going to my local bar for a drink. I needed to leave my apartment each day - I didn’t move all the way out here to be a homebody. I was going into Midtown every day my first week here, and every time I left my apartment, I would get lost when I had to switch trains. It took about one week to get the hang of that commute from Brooklyn. I don’t feel like I’m fully embraced by the city yet, but I’m sure that will come with time. For now, I love the adventure and I can’t wait to show my friends and family how amazing this city can be.

So stay tuned for some upcoming New York City content from concerts, interviews, music reviews and photos!!!

As for The Fog City Girls, we’ve said it before but we will continue on with our blog. This will now be more of a coast to coast music and lifestyle blog. It may look a bit different because we’re posting our own separate content instead of content together, but it’ll probably be more fun for you guys to read!
